Under the hood is a real mastering chain: ITU-R BS.1770-4 gated loudness measurement (the exact standard Spotify and YouTube normalize against), Linkwitz–Riley multiband compression, and a lookahead limiter that reads 4× oversampled true peaks so lossy encoders don't clip your track later. Every number on screen is measured, never estimated.

Fair questions
Is RecordingLab really free?+
Yes. Recording, trimming, MP3 and WAV export, and full mastering are free, with no account and no watermarks. A free account is optional – it adds a private library and share links that never expire.
Does my audio get uploaded anywhere?+
Not for recording, analysis or mastering – those run entirely inside your browser. Audio only leaves your device if you explicitly create a share link, which publishes an MP3 to a private unguessable URL.
How do share links work?+
One click publishes your take or master as an MP3 at a short link like recordinglab.com/x/abc123. Anyone with the link can listen or embed it. Links are unlisted, and shares are kept for 90 days.
What does the mastering engine actually do?+
It measures your track with the same ITU-R BS.1770-4 loudness standard streaming services use, then applies EQ, three-band compression, optional saturation and a true-peak limiter, and lifts the result to your chosen loudness target – for example -14 LUFS for streaming.
What formats can I upload for mastering?+
MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A/AAC and OGG. Exports are MP3 320 kbps, WAV 24-bit or WAV 16-bit (dithered).
Can I record music, not just voice?+
Yes – switch the recorder to Music mode and the browser's echo cancellation, noise suppression and auto-gain are all turned off, giving you the raw signal at 48 kHz.
